The Rainbow Poi I’ve been working on have as a feature The ‘Centrifuge VM’ - a little virtual computer of my own design which runs programs describing colours. More than simple lists of colours to show in particular orders, these programs can use loops, maths, and tables of data to create ever changing displays, or sequences which would be too large to store otherwise. These programs will be changable via USB and a special Mac/PC app, once I get around to making those bits.
Pictured is an early prototype of the poi which started running my test ‘purple streak’ program today - showing that every fundamental feature of centrifuge is working great.
Now if I’m to meet my arbitrary deadline of tomorrow night (just 23 hours from now) for a fully working spinnable prototype, I’ll need to solve the power regulator problems which are keeping the LEDs too dim, fabricate an enclosure, set it up with batteries, and make a good lanyard thing for spinning them with. I’m optimistic!
